Next we drove to the end of the road-Parking spot #5. The house and surrounding area are beautiful and serene. (Our picnic lunch was good too!) The house wasn't open, but we weren't interested in viewing the inside anyway.Ī fishing pier very close to the property allowed me to walk over the water and look for a manatee, but I did not see one. We ate lunch on the rocking chairs on the Eldora front porch overlooking the Lagoon. Just come prepared, and you should have a great time! They lasted a mean 60 seconds before diving for their car. She had on a halter top and shorts, he a tee shirt and shorts, both in sandals. As we got ready to leave inside the safety of our car, we watched another, very unsuspecting couple get out of their car to take the path. Think we will go back in the winter, with industrial strength repellant on. So back down the path, doing the mosquito dance the whole way. We did sit in the rockers on the front porch for a bit, but then the lightning got a little too close. When we got to the house, there was a strong wind off of the Intercoastal Waterway (which here, ha ha, is call Mosquito Lagoon). We 'toughed it out', but am sure we looked very strange to anyone watching, as we were swinging our arms, clapping our hands (to smack those buggers!) and generally moving very strangley on the path. If we hadn't had the rain jackets on, we would have had to turn around immediately. Those darned mosquitos started the minute we left the parking area and started down the path to the house. Being native Floridians, we always have bug spray and sunscreen in the car. When we arrived we sprayed (lightly) with repellant, and then (fortunately) put on our rain jackets because of a light rain. I really want visitors to be aware that the mosquitos in this area are nothing to mess with. This could have been an excellent rating, but for the voracious mosquitos.
